Project Spotlight: Hendra Private Residence

 

A big backyard with a beautiful pool, could life get much better than that? According to a Hendra, QLD homeowner, that was just the beginning! 

The owner envisioned a full upgrade to their outdoor area. The existing pool was 52m², and the owner wanted it extended to include a spa, bench seating, steps, with visions of an onyx water and light feature. The owner knew the tilework had to be of a very high standard to bring the pool features together and draw the eye towards the stand-out onyx feature. After doing research, the homeowners worked with designer, Alistair Hutton, who would bring their dream to reality. Alistair contacted Sam Gardener, an expert tiler specialising in pools to handle the installation. 

The backyard was already a hub of activity when Sam arrived on the scene. The team from Everscapes Landscaping were overhauling the backyard area to include a new fireplace and garden beds. After lengthy discussions and site visits with the owner on what had to be done, Sam immediately contacted LATICRETE Australia Technical Sales Representative, Shane Anderson in QLD to discuss the project and obtain advice. Sam knew LATICRETE products provided solutions which he and countless other contractors around the world have come to trust and rely on.

Hills District Private Residence Pool Refurbishment

 

This lovely dark mosaic pool is the skilled handiwork of Yuriy Lypskyy from Absolute Swimming Pool Tiling. LATICRETE NSW Technical Sales Representative Joe Tabone was on-site with Yuriy in the Hills District and managed to snap these fantastic photos of the talented tiler at work.

Yuriy has laid this 170m² pool with Ezarri mosaic tiles and travertine coping, using an extensive range of LATICRETE products to get the job done.

Products used: 

• HYDRO BAN® is a thin, load-bearing waterproofing/crack isolation membrane that DOES NOT require the use of fabric in the field, coves or corners. HYDRO BAN is a single component, self-curing liquid rubber polymer that forms a flexible, seamless waterproofing membrane.

• 335 is a premium, flexible, high-performance thin-bed adhesive for installing a wide range of tiles and stone including low absorption ceramic tile, porcelain tile, natural and manufactured stone using thin-set method of installation.
• PERMACOLOR® Grout is a high-performance grout that provides a grout joint that is dense, hard and will resist cracking.

Flood Testing Procedures

In many cases, where complete waterproofing is required (e.g. showers), flood testing of the membrane is recommended and may be required by applicable plumbing code. The practice of flood testing tile and stone installations which will be subjected to continuous submersion (e.g. swimming pools, fountains, etc...) or a significant amount of water flow (e.g. showers) is a critical step to ensuring that no damage is done to a structure due to water leakage. 

All too often this vital step is not performed due to time constraints, is performed improperly, or any results are not recognized for what they are.

The purpose of this Technical Data Sheet is to provide a guide to properly conduct a flood test for installations to receive tile or stone as a finish material. Conducting a flood test properly can provide a measure of confidence that the waterproofing system performs as expected and provides a watertight installation for the service life of the system. Please note that ASTM D5957 “Flood Testing Horizontal Waterproofing Installations” is the ASTM method from which this Technical Data Sheet draws much of its information. For a more complete reference please visit www.astm.org to purchase a copy of the complete standard. Please note that design professionals, engineers and others who are contractually obligated to a specific project may devise or require other means and methods to conduct a flood test.

Prior to flood testing a large area, ensure that the load bearing capacity of the structure to be flood tested is capable of supporting the water used to conduct the flood test. This step should be conducted by a licensed structural engineer who can ensure that building code and design restrictions are met.

Stunning Pool Project Completed

 

A quality residential pool project completed just in time for Spring! Corey Downes, LATICRETE Technical Sales Rep, was recently on the Sunshine Coast, QLD, with the team from Ambrose Building as they completed this beautiful green Bali stone pool. The project included 225m2 of Sukabumi stone installed using a range of LATICRETE installation materials which qualifies for a LATICRETE 15 Year Swimming Pool System Warranty.

Products used:

• 226 Thick Bed Mortar is a factory prepared blend of carefully selected raw materials, Portland cement and graded aggregates. 226 Thick Bed Mortar was designed for use with 3701 Mortar Admix to produce a latex Portland cement mortar that has exceptional strength. 
• 3701 Mortar Admix is used in place of water, 3701 Mortar Admix improves the working and physical properties of any cement mix and provides an economical and easy way to make permanent, trouble-free installations of ceramic tile, brick, and natural stone.

• LATAPOXY® 300 Adhesive is a chemical resistant, epoxy adhesive that will bond to most sound, clean surfaces. The adhesive spreads easily and cleans with water while fresh.

• LATAPOXY® SP-100 is a stainless, pigment free, colourfast epoxy grout for grouting floor installations of ceramic tile, brick, and stone.

• LATASIL™ is a high performance, one component, neutral cure, 100% silicone sealant designed for ceramic tile and stone applications. 
• STONETECH® Grout Release makes grout installation clean-up easier.

LATICRETE NSW Technical Sales Rep, Glenn Mannix, recently visited this job site in Jerrara, NSW. The team from DTR Tiling is working hard to complete this pool project for Zen Pools and Building. The pool features 55m2 of Ezarri glass mosaic tiles, and is being installed using a range of LATICRETE materials.

Indoor Swimming Pool Underway
