Project Spotlight: Hendra Private Residence

 

A big backyard with a beautiful pool, could life get much better than that? According to a Hendra, QLD homeowner, that was just the beginning! 

The owner envisioned a full upgrade to their outdoor area. The existing pool was 52m², and the owner wanted it extended to include a spa, bench seating, steps, with visions of an onyx water and light feature. The owner knew the tilework had to be of a very high standard to bring the pool features together and draw the eye towards the stand-out onyx feature. After doing research, the homeowners worked with designer, Alistair Hutton, who would bring their dream to reality. Alistair contacted Sam Gardener, an expert tiler specialising in pools to handle the installation. 

The backyard was already a hub of activity when Sam arrived on the scene. The team from Everscapes Landscaping were overhauling the backyard area to include a new fireplace and garden beds. After lengthy discussions and site visits with the owner on what had to be done, Sam immediately contacted LATICRETE Australia Technical Sales Representative, Shane Anderson in QLD to discuss the project and obtain advice. Hendra Pool Project Update

 

We recently shared a project titled "Pool Renovation Project in Hendra" by Sam Gardener Tiling and Infinity Pool Builders. The team are renovating a 70m2 pool, designed by Alistair Hutton from Everscapes Landscapes. 

The pool with add-on spa, bench seating and steps feature Bisazza glass mosaic tiles including Blend Liz and Blend 20.77. Sam has used SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout in the colour "Silver Shadow" for Blend Liz and "Raven" in SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout with DAZZLE™ in "Copper" for Blend 20.77.

Sam is using a range of LATICRETE materials that qualify for a LATICRETE 15 Year Swimming Pool System Warranty.

LATICRETE products used:

• 226 Thick Bed Mortar - a factory prepared blend of carefully selected raw materials, Portland cement and graded aggregates. 226 Thick Bed Mortar was designed for use with 3701 Mortar Admix to produce a latex Portland cement mortar that has exceptional strength. 
• 3701 Mortar Admix - used in place of water, 3701 Mortar Admix improves the working and physical properties of any cement mix and provides an economical and easy way to make permanent, trouble-free installations of ceramic tile, brick, and natural stone.
• LATAPOXY® Moisture Shield - a 2 component, roller applied epoxy coating specifically designed to reduce moisture vapour emissions in concrete and other substrates.
• HYDRO BAN® - a thin, load-bearing waterproofing/crack isolation membrane that DOES NOT require the use of fabric in the field, coves or corners. HYDRO BAN is a single component, self-curing liquid rubber polymer that forms a flexible, seamless waterproofing membrane. 
• HYDRO BAN® Fillet & Sealant is a one-component, fast curing, hybrid elastomeric adhesive, and sealant.
• 254 - the ultimate one-step, polymer fortified, thin-set adhesive. For interior and exterior installation of ceramic and stone tile, reduced thickness porcelain, quarry tile, pavers, and thin brick. 254 provides long open time with unsurpassed adhesion and workability. 
• SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout* - High-performance epoxy grout that offers colour uniformity, durability, and stain resistance with extraordinary ease of use.
• SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout with DAZZLE™ - offers high performance, colour uniformity, durability and stain resistance of epoxy grout with extraordinary ease of use and the design excitement of both DAZZLE and Glow characteristics.
• LATASIL™ - a high performance, one component, neutral cure, 100% silicone sealant designed for ceramic tile and stone applications.

Pool Renovation Project in Hendra

 

Pool renovation details coming up! A residential pool project is currently being installed by Sam Gardener Tiling and Infinity Pool Builders in Hendra, QLD. Another Bathroom Complete

This residential bathroom project in Brisbane, QLD, was recently completed by Sam Gardener Tiling. Sam chose to use 335 Premium Flexible Adhesive to install the 200x600mm porcelain tiles, which features a mitred two wall niche. 

335 Premium Flexible Adhesive is a high performance thin-bed adhesive for installing a wide range of tiles and stone including low absorption ceramic tile, porcelain tile, natural and manufactured stone using thin-set method of installation. Exceeds the requirements of AS ISO13007.1&2 classification C2TES1. Excellent for exterior and underwater applications, superior bond to masonry.

Residential Ensuite Project

Sam from Sam Gardener Tiling recently completed tiling these 3 residential ensuites which consist of hexagon floors and feature walls. It also features mitred wall to wall niches. Sam used 335 Premium Flexible Adhesive throughout the project.

Award Winning Pool Project

A private residence project in Indooroopilly, QLD, consisted of nearly 1200m2 of construction including a pool, spa and water feature. Skilled designer, Owen Rentoul, helped in the creation of the project design, and Tim Stewart Architects were engaged to assist with the project drawings. 1200x600mm large format marble from SNB Stone and 40x40mm glass mosaics from Trend Mosaics were used throughout the project. The installation of these tiles required more than the above-average application technique; with award winning skills from Sam Gardener Tiling and LATICRETE solutions, the project was completed with exceptional quality and ease of mind.

To overcome challenges throughout the installation of the pool, spa and water feature Sam used a wide range of LATICRETE products including HYDRO BAN®, 226 Thick Bed Mortar, 3701 Mortar Admix, 211 Crete Filler Powder, 4237 Latex Additive, 335 PremiumFlexible Adhesive White, SPECTRALOCK® PRO Grout and LATASIL™. LATAPOXY® 310 Stone Adhesive was also used to bond the marble slab, nominally 50kgs/m2, to the front protruding featured face the of the pool.

Both the home owner and Sam Gardener were happy with the end result, and for the project Master Builders Association awarded Sam the 2017 “Residential Trade Contractor of the Year” for Brisbane and he was also the overall winner for Queensland, in the same category.
