SPARTACOTE™ Metallic System - Part 2

In October we featured the first steps in the application process of the LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ Metallic flooring system. The images above show the final steps of the application:

Once the Metallic coat is prepared, it is then applied to the black base by pouring ribbons and spreading it over the substrate in random patterns to create swirls. Dye free acetone can also be applied with a paint brush to create visual effects. Lastly, a clear top coat is applied which is made up of SPARTACOTE FLEX™ Clear Part A, mixed with SPARTACOTE FLEX Clear Part B.

Over the past few weeks we have been sharing in the application process for LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ Flooring Systems and have so far featured the SPARTACOTE™ BLENDED CHIP system. The images above show the initial steps in the application of the SPARTACOTE Metallic system.

To start, measured amounts of SPARTACOTE POLYASPARTIC PIGMENT™ and SPARTACOTE FLEX Pigment Base Kit Part A are mixed together. Once these have dispersed completely, mix in with the SPARTACOTE FLEX PIGMENT Base Kit Part B to create the black base coat for the system. Distribute evenly by pouring the material out in 'ribbons' and roll the black base colour out over the substrate. Once applied, leave to dry. To create the Metallic coat, mix measured amounts of SPARTACOTE FLEX ™ Clear Part A with your chosen Metallic pigment. Add SPARTACOTE FLEX Clear Part B to create the metallic coat which will go over the black base. Keep your eyes peeled next week to see the next steps of the application process.

Concrete Flooring Doesn't Have to be Boring!

Recently Maverick Contracting, from West Virginia USA, installed LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ Metallic flooring system for My Dive Shop, a retail scuba diving shop. Shop owners, Melody Metz and Daniel Langdon, were looking for something unique, and something that could replicate the look and feel of the ocean. The solution was the SPARTACOTE Metallic with 'Cobalt Blue' additive.

Vince Putkowski of Maverick Contracting worked with Langdon in designing the concrete coating application. The dive shop was moving to a new larger location and wanted to provide customers with a “WOW!” feeling. The ocean feel begins when new and existing customers enter the front door and see Dan’s colourful logo. The logo has been installed on top of the blue metallic floor but under the two clear coats of SPARTACOTE FLEX PURE™. The SPARTACOTE FLEX PURE top coats give My Dive Shop excellent protection against impact, abrasion, and chemicals, while the metallic exhibits cool, life-like, 3-D effects and textures. Dan explains, “it’s what people look at the most. Now, they are looking at the water and thinking about scuba diving”.

Georgetown Piano Bar Gets New Floor!

The Georgetown Piano Bar, in Washington D.C, needed to revamp their existing black and white painted concrete flooring, and LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ was the chosen flooring solution.

Collins Concrete Coatings, a seasoned SPARTACOTE installer, carried out the 120m2 project starting with surface prep, which consisted of using SPARTACOTE FAST FIX™ to repair the concrete cracks, spalls, pop-outs, pitting and spalling. The concrete slab was then mechanically profiled for proper adhesion.

Once the surface prep was complete the team started on applying the SPARTACOTE Metallic™ system in a coffee colour on to the main floors, and then started on the stairs. The owners of the piano bar wanted the stairs to fit in with the overall design theme that had been used but wanted them to differ from the main flooring for safety reasons. The owners selected SPARTACOTE MICA Chip in Copper River to compliment the coffee metallic on the main floor. Continue reading here.
