How to install SPARTACOTE™ Metallic Concrete Coating

Georgetown Piano Bar Gets New Floor!

The Georgetown Piano Bar, in Washington D.C, needed to revamp their existing black and white painted concrete flooring, and LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ was the chosen flooring solution.

Collins Concrete Coatings, a seasoned SPARTACOTE installer, carried out the 120m2 project starting with surface prep, which consisted of using SPARTACOTE FAST FIX™ to repair the concrete cracks, spalls, pop-outs, pitting and spalling. The concrete slab was then mechanically profiled for proper adhesion.

Once the surface prep was complete the team started on applying the SPARTACOTE Metallic™ system in a coffee colour on to the main floors, and then started on the stairs. The owners of the piano bar wanted the stairs to fit in with the overall design theme that had been used but wanted them to differ from the main flooring for safety reasons. The owners selected SPARTACOTE MICA Chip in Copper River to compliment the coffee metallic on the main floor. Continue reading here.

Recently we blogged about the NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway that had received a brand new LATICRETE® SPARTACOTE™ flooring system to the garage areas and technical inspection bays. Stage two is now complete and we are excited to share with you! 

Texas Motor Speedway management partnered up with Intertech Flooring and LATICRETE to bring high performance LATICRETE SPARTACOTE concrete coating systems to the legendary raceway’s massive garages.

“This was a big project with a lot of planning involved. My team and I really enjoy working with the SPARTACOTE product and appreciate the support LATICRETE brings to the table. We look forward to doing another coatings project like this soon.” ~ Richard Garcia, Intertech Flooring.

Working with design professionals, they initiated their garage floor concept, including custom colours, textures, logos, and specified a moisture mitigating primer coat spanning the concrete surface to minimize any excess moisture found within the existing slab.

The Intertech team completed and turned over the Phase 1 of the Texas Motor Speedway north commercial garage project in October 2016 in time for the Texas 500 NASCAR event in November. Phase 2 was completed in February 2017. Texas Motor Speedway Vice President of Operations Mat Stolley was enthusiastic with the finished, custom SPARTACOTE floor. Project Spotlight: Hillsborough County Transfer Waste Station

The Solution: LATICRETE L&M™ Construction Chemicals

Tipping floors found in waste transfer stations and material recovery facilities (MRFs) undergo attacks that are extreme and unique to the solid waste industry. In fact, there isn’t a more abused floor than one found within this space. The attacks come in three forms: abrasion, impact and chemical. The front-loaders from the tractors cause the abrasion and impact, and the waste leachate creates the chemical attack on the concrete surface.

In Hillsborough County, Tampa USA, the existing concrete at the transfer waste centre had worn down as far as the rebar in certain areas - 100 mm in elevation - and was nonexistent in some spaces. Cornerstone Construction Services (CCS), an Orlando-based concrete contractor, was awarded the project. 

CCS had half the floor to work with at any given time. The other half remained operational. This created logistical difficulties working around heavy equipment. Another challenge the CCS crew encountered was environmental. Florida temperatures in the summer are not conducive to good concrete or emery topping placement projects. Therefore, they mixed and placed the new topping at night, when temperatures were at their lowest.

LATICRETE L&M™ Construction Chemicals EMERYTOP 400™ was the chosen solution, and over the course of the two installations, the CCS crew put down over 226,796kg of L&M EMERYTOP 400 material. Hillsborough County management is very pleased with their new L&M EMERYTOP 400 floor topping. The Solution: LATICRETE® SPARTACOTE®

Home to The University of Texas Men's and Women's basketball team, the Frank Erwin Centre also hosts numerous professional entertainers including musicians, the circus, professional wrestling and monster truck exhibitions. 

The 604m2 cavernous ramp tunnel walkway sits within the Erwin Centre, spans from the large dock area to the main floor, and is the only gateway to the main floor space within the hall. The volume of traffic that the pathway takes on is extreme and furthermore, the area has forklift trucks running up and down the ramp, putting the floor through regular abrasion and impact. 

In 2015, Austin-based company, Intertech Flooring, were asked to install a resinous coating that could be used on the ramp area - unfortunately the coating did not perform as required. 

In 2016 Intertech Flooring then discovered LATICRETE SPARTACOTE. They selected a black SPARTACOTE Guard™ solid colour concrete coating system with SPARTACOTE Diamond Topp™ Traction Additive for the concrete floor. Initially a mock-up was applied on the tunnel which was left for a couple of weeks to endure the usual heavy traffic loads, spills and abrasives. Race Shop Flooring

When a successful Indy Car race team, Team Pelfry, required a high-performance floor coating system that would offer a rapid turn around time on installation for their race car shop, the solutions was LATICRETE® SPARTACOTE® Guard™. 

Team Pelfry required the 279m2 facility to be completed within 24 hours and the end result had to have the durability to stand up to the rigors demanded by two full-time Indy race car teams and the array of potentially damaging materials such as gasoline, motor oil and other chemicals. 

After the installation was complete, the coating contractor handed over the shop floor to the client within hours of completion. Floor Restoration For Goodwill Industries

The Solution for Concrete Flooring

Goodwill Industries Facilities Director, Doug Nass, was looking to restore the  epoxy coated floors in the Goodwill Industries building, in Wisconsin. With four decades of abuse and multiple layers of damaged epoxy coatings, Doug knew it wasn't going to be an easy job.

After hearing about LATICRETE® L&M™ Construction Chemicals, FGS PermaShine flooring system through a friend, Doug contacted L&A Crystal, a FGS PERMASHINE installer, and soon they were on the job installing the flooring system in the retail services area of the facility. 

After that area was completed, Nass and Vicki Holshuh, Goodwill's Vice Presidents of Retail Services, decided to extend the FGS floor system into the Work Services Area of the building. NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway Chose LATICRETE

Only LATICRETE® SPARTACOTE® Flooring Systems Will Do!

Earlier this month, just before the NASCAR Triple-A Texas 500 Tripleheader weekend in the USA, Texas Motor Speedway partnered with Inter Tech Flooring and LATICRETE SPARTACOTE® to bring a brand new high-performance floor to the garage areas and technical inspection bays. 

The process involved the application of SPARTACOTE Resinous Coatings and moisture mitigation over approximately 2044m2, and with over 40 high-performance cars being worked on, the NASCAR garage was full of power tools, hot tyres, hot torches that leave abrasive debris, solvents, engine fluids and cleaners - a durable flooring system was needed to rise to the challenge. 

Designers required black and yellow zebra stripes for the NASCAR inspection bays, deep cherry-red coatings in the walkways, and over 90 feet of Texas-size Speedway logos embedded in those cherry-red spaces. Continue reading the Project Spotlight here.
