Recently we blogged about the R&D lab at LATICRETE Australia Head Office getting a makeover. The newly renovated R&D lab features a beautiful new LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™BLENDED CHIP floor.

Minooka Subaru SPARTACOTE™ Project

Minooka Subaru in Pennsylvania recently expanded its service bays to include a new 752.5m2 space. The area is designed to be the drive-through commercial garage where customers pull in their vehicles for inspection and drop-off. Like any car dealership, high up-time and fast return to service on construction work was of paramount importance to the Subaru dealer’s owner, and this new space was no exception.

LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ coating system was selected as the go-to flooring product for the fast return to service, safe, nonslip characteristics, and its customisable colours and textures. 'Subaru Blue' with a 50% broadcast of 'Midnight Blue' chips was chosen for the walkways, and safety yellow for the line striping.

The next day applicators taped off the outside of the safety yellow line striping, and put down protective plastic to cover the walkway areas. For the remaining space, medium grey base with a broadcast of 'Midnight Blue' chips was applied.

Minooka Subaru now has a finished floor that offers employees and customers very high up-time, safety, and custom Subaru colours. With proper care and easy maintenance, this floor will last for years in the commercial space. Click here to read the full story.

SPARTACOTE™ Metallic System - Part 2

In October we featured the first steps in the application process of the LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ Metallic flooring system. The images above show the final steps of the application:

Once the Metallic coat is prepared, it is then applied to the black base by pouring ribbons and spreading it over the substrate in random patterns to create swirls. Dye free acetone can also be applied with a paint brush to create visual effects. Lastly, a clear top coat is applied which is made up of SPARTACOTE FLEX™ Clear Part A, mixed with SPARTACOTE FLEX Clear Part B.

Over the past few weeks we have been sharing in the application process for LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ Flooring Systems and have so far featured the SPARTACOTE™ BLENDED CHIP system. The images above show the initial steps in the application of the SPARTACOTE Metallic system.

To start, measured amounts of SPARTACOTE POLYASPARTIC PIGMENT™ and SPARTACOTE FLEX Pigment Base Kit Part A are mixed together. Once these have dispersed completely, mix in with the SPARTACOTE FLEX PIGMENT Base Kit Part B to create the black base coat for the system. Distribute evenly by pouring the material out in 'ribbons' and roll the black base colour out over the substrate. Once applied, leave to dry. To create the Metallic coat, mix measured amounts of SPARTACOTE FLEX ™ Clear Part A with your chosen Metallic pigment. Add SPARTACOTE FLEX Clear Part B to create the metallic coat which will go over the black base. Keep your eyes peeled next week to see the next steps of the application process.

Recently we featured the first steps in the application process of LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ BLENDED CHIP system. This week the above images show the final steps in the process:

Once the flakes have dried in to the base coat, the next step is the remove all the excess flake. This is done by scraping in different directions so all loose flakes are removed. After the flakes have been removed, the top coat can be applied. SPARTACOTE FLEX PURE™ is applied as the top coat in the same fashion as the base coat - distributing evenly by pouring 'ribbons' and then rolling out over the substrate. SPARTACOTE GRIP™ traction additive can also be added in to the top coat to increase the traction on the final product.

Over the coming weeks we will be featuring a range of LATICRETE SPARTACOTE™ Flooring Systems and the application process. The images above show the application of SPARTACOTE BLENDED CHIP system.

Firstly, measured amounts of SPARTACOTE FLEX PURE™ Pigment Base and Polyaspartic Pigment are mixed together to create the base coat for the system. The base coat is distributed evenly by pouring 'ribbons' and then rolling out over the substrate. Once the base coat has been applied, and while still wet, Chip flakes are broadcast evenly over the wet resin, ensuring total coverage. This is then left to dry before continuing the next step. Keep your eyes peeled next week to see the final steps of the application process.
