Christmas at LATICRETE

Christmas at LATICRETE Australia was a special one. Not only did the team celebrate the holidays, we also celebrated the company's milestone - the 65th anniversary of LATICRETE!

We swapped out the traditional Christmas colours of red and green for bright yellow at our Christmas lunch, an homage to a classic LATICRETE shirt design originally worn by founder Dr. Henry M. Rothberg. LATICRETE is 65 years old and stronger than ever!

From all of us here at LATICRETE Australia, we thank you for your support, and as we begin our 66th year we look forward to celebrating many more milestones with you!

Flash Back Friday - Reischman Park

Established in 1982, Reischman Park in Roswell New Mexico was gifted to the city by the Reischman family. Over the years the 51m2 park has suffered wear and tear. In 2013 renovations were coordinated with the non-profit Roswell Interarts Organisation (RIO), which raised separate funds to create the custom artwork for the park.

RIO had the task of creating an updated art space using inspiration from historic Roswell photos, which consisted of a new arched entryway, tiled seating, and a mural. Susan Wink, representing RIO, was the artist/designer of the park project. Susan worked with Harva Joseph, owner of George's Carpet & Tile, as well as installers Gary Gingrich and Kendra Barnett,

"We recognise LATICRETE as a strong company with a fine reputation for great products and exceptional service” Harva commented.

The Reischman Park project has taken over six years to complete and all parties involved are extremely happy with the outcome of the new Reischman Park. Read the full Project Spotlight here.

LATICRETE Australia “Drives” to Success During the 'ONE LATICRETE ONE FAMILY' Event

LATICRETE Australia team building
During 2018, ONE LATICRETE ONE FAMILY events are being held throughout all LATICRETE global locations where executives of the company come to talk with our team members about the history, success, culture and future growth plans of the company. The main message is that LATICRETE, despite geographical distance, is ‘one’ team with the same vision, mission and values.
Last week, LATICRETE Australia hosted their event. It kicked off with presentations from Emma Tschannen, General Manager of LATICRETE Australia, Henry B. Rothberg, Sr. Vice President Training of LATICRETE International, and Faisal Saleem, Vice President of LATICRETE International.
Emma Tschannen, G.M of LATICRETE Australia, welcomed our International guests Henry Rothberg and wife Sheila and Faisal Saleem as well as the Australian team to the One LATICRETE One Family event. The team joined in with Emma to welcome the guests in saying “We are one but we are many, and from all the lands we come, we’ll share a dream and sing with one voice, I am, you are, we are Australian”.

Henry B. Rothberg, Sr. VP of Training, then took the team through a series of questions that have been asked: Who are we? What are we going to do to move forward? When did it all begin? He told the story about an innovator and entrepreneur, the late Dr. Henry M. Rothberg, who started LATICRETE in the basement of his family home in the late 1950’s. He spoke about the challenges, the LATICRETE family culture and the future growth plans of the company. Henry thanked each team member for their commitment and spoke about the vital roles that every team member plays in contributing to the success and the growth of LATICRETE.

“I have to remind myself that where we are at LATICRETE today, around the world, is based upon people. I need to address everyone in the room, everyone in this room have all done a great job. Bottom line, thank you as each of you have contributed and made a difference – thank you!” – Henry B. Rothberg, Sr. Vice President of Training.

Faisal Saleem, Vice President LATICRETE International, closed the presentation to the team speaking about the future and growth plans for LATICRETE International team including being the leaders in tile and stone as a single source provider of flooring systems from surface preparation, screed and hardeners, decorative, finishes, resinous flooring and complementary products.

“New products is one part of the plan; if you have a complete line of products, it’s not necessary that you will be successful. I think people, technical expertise / technical know-how and manufacturing processes is something that LATICRETE has, and will help us be #1 within the flooring space, beyond tile and stone.” – Faisal Saleem, Vice President of LATICRETE International

Team Build
The Australian team then participated in a team build session, called ‘Bridging the Gap’, where they broke off into groups to work together to create a ‘Super Highway’. Teams worked with materials they were given, such as pop sticks (ice-cream sticks), rulers, straws, string, glue gun, polystyrene cups and small cardboard. The goal was to create a ‘Super Highway’ which required bridges to be built between 6 tables, within a period of time. The group had to overcome hurdles which were given to them throughout the challenge, and required the team to adapt, communicate and work together to be successful. The ultimate test was to see if a remote racing car was capable of going across the “Super Highway” and the bridges that were built.

The team pulled together and successfully built a “Super Highway” in which the racing car veered through the bridges without any difficulties. The bridges were all given various International Business Unit names, which symbolised despite geographical distance, LATICRETE is ‘one’ team with the same visionmission and values.

The ultimate challenges through the team build and what every company is faced with on a daily basis is company structure, budgets, communication, team work, procedures and policies. It’s a company’s ability to embrace changes, challenges and adversities to reach the winning goal.

Setting The Resurfacing Standard With DURAFLOOR TGA™

Creating A New Look Using Existing Tiles

A Facelift for the Hudson Hospital

An expansion at the Hudson Hospital required construction on the clinical wing and administration, which included the lobby, waiting room, hallway and stairs. To get the best results possible the use of DURAFLOOR TGA  was recommended for the project.

DURAFLOOR TGA™ is a blend of cements, mineral aggregates, polymers and colour. It is specifically used to resurface existing concrete surfaces and it combines the durability of concrete with colour and decorative aggregate to produce a visually appealing finish.

An article written by LATICRETE Channel Manager, Jeff Bonkiewicz was featured in For Construction Pros regarding the Hudson Hospital project and the use of DURAFLOOR TGA™.

"After surface prep was complete and the sanded epoxy cured, Concrete Arts' crew then mixed and placed the Durafloor TGA polishable overlay." Continue reading the article here.

Customer Testimonial

Giving Back To Those Who Give To Us

What an Awesome Project to be Part of

"Dear Mr. Rothberg,

A little over 2 years ago my husband was deployed to Afghanistan. I set on a mission to renovate our small master bathroom.  I had gotten a couple of quotes from some renovation companies, but they were completely outside of my budget. I had not tackled a job quite as large as this before, so I explored the internet and found some very informative housing forums to seek information and instruction. Your staff saw one of my posts and reached out to me to help me.

First, I was in disbelief. Then after personally talking to Sean Boyle and trading emails, I realised that this was real. Laticrete donated the materials I needed to do my bathroom as a thank you to my family for my husband's service to our country. I was, and still am, in awe, and extremely humbled. I am and forever will be grateful to you and your company for your extremely generous gift to us. Words just cannot express the gratitude of appreciation I have for your company and staff members. I traded emails with you and several staff members during the process, and everyone was so kind and thoughtful and helpful.

Another thing I am extremely thankful for is the connection you gave me with John Whipple. He was my right hand man from Vancouver to Ohio via emails and phone calls. I cannot even begin to count the amount of contact I had with him. He truly was a Godsend, and I have you to thank for that. I couldn't have done this to the standard I wanted to without him.

My brother was my original helper, but he got very ill when I got into the major part of the reconstruction and wasn't able to help me. John was there for me every step of the way and made time for all my questions without hesitation. He made sure I was doing things correctly. I can truly say, although I have never met him personally, he has become a friend through all of this. Thank you.

I wish I could tell you that I finished before my husband got home, but that I can't.  The project was overwhelming at times, and I often wondered what I had gotten myself into. But now I can say I am completely finished and very pleased with the results. The renovation involved me gutting my bathroom down to the studs in the shower and subfloor throughout.  I did leave the drywall in the remainder of the bathroom. I won't go into complete details, but I wanted to show you the results of mine and John's work.

Again, thank you for all you have done for me and my family. Whenever someone mentions they are doing a bathroom renovation, I always recommend your products and tell the story of how you blessed me.

Sincerely,
Jenna Scheidegger"
