World's Tallest Statue

 

Join us each week for a look at some stunning LATICRETE projects from around the world! This week we're showcasing the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, India - the world's tallest statue.

At 182m tall, this symbol of unity was built in honour of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, who had a huge hand in unifying a fractured India. It has claimed the “World’s Tallest” title from the Spring Temple Buddha in Lushan, China. Built by an army of more than 3000 engineers and workers, this statue of the politician known as The Iron Man of India was built through two structural concrete core towers, a steel framework and an exterior bronze panelling, all rising from a star-shaped base. 

The statue has become a world-famous tourist icon, with footfalls anticipated at 15,000 tourists every single day, and an observation deck created to accommodate up to 200 visitors at a time. The floor, naturally, has to bear the brunt of heavy treading and the knocks of muddy, dusty, gritty footwear which can damage and stain it. The designers specified heavy duty tiles to withstand the risk of extreme wear, and required a highly durable, shock resistant, high strength installation system that could bond to tiles and stones effectively and withstand a range of interior and exterior conditions. 

MYK LATICRETE in India was chosen to consult and provide the most suitable system for the installation of tiles and stone. MYK LATICRETE, which has been involved in many top-notch structures across India and South Asia, such as the TCS building and the Delhi Metro, had the technical prowess and the experience to address the critical needs of this mega project. A LATICRETE installation system proved to be the perfect solution to withstand the massive pressure that the statue was to be subjected to, while retaining the immaculate quality of the tiles and stones. LATICRETE contributed adhesives, grout, waterproofing, and stone care products to this massive project with over 180,000m² of tiled surfaces.

Amber Chatswood Trade Night

 

Recently LATICRETE attended a trade night at Amber Tiles in Chatswood, NSW. It was a great event and almost 30 tradies came through. Those who attended had the opportunity to chat with Craig Hunter, LATICRETE Technical Sales Rep, to gain a better understanding of LATICRETE products and installation systems. HYDRO BAN® SLURRY and MVIS™ Masonry Veneer Mortar were a hit!

Products of focus on the evening were:

• PRIME-N-BOND™ is a versatile, ready-to-use, single coat, low VOC primer designed to enhance the adhesion of adhesives to many smooth and non-absorptive substrates that can be difficult to bond to.
• HYDRO BAN® SLURRY is a cement-based one component, polymer fortified, waterproofing material that mixes with water and easily apples with brush, roller, or trowel. This product can be used on retaining walls, water features, slabs on ground, and immersed installations. HYDRO BAN SLURRY is suitable for areas requiring negative hydrostatic pressure resistance up to 2.5 BARS and positive hydrostatic pressure up to 5 BARS.
• PERMACOLOR® Select is an advanced high performance cement grout that offers the industry's first dispersible dry pigment solution. 
• MVIS™ Veneer Mortar is a patented, versatile polymer fortified mortar designed specifically for the installation of adhered masonry veneer, stone and thin brick. A high performance mix provides maximum non-sag performance for vertical installations and also obtains maximum bond strength to the substrate and selected veneers.
