Oak Cliff in Dallas, Texas is now the home of a towering mosaic sculpture called Piece 24, which is part of a public art project of 29 Pieces, a non profit group that seeks to fill the city with sculpture. Mosaic Artist, Julie Richey, who has been working on the project shared in her progress and experience while creating the artwork:

“I can't describe how much fun I'm having with this great group of interns and leaders. We are making art in real time! Special thanks to LATICRETE International, Henry Rothberg and local LATICRETE Rep Daniel Diaz for sponsoring our HYDRO BAN® waterproofing, mortar and PERMACOLOR® Grout. I’ve been so pleased and surprised by how quickly the One Step is setting up, allowing us to remove the mosaic tape and grout on the same day we applied the mosaic. Usually I wait overnight. Mosaic Fencing in Capalaba

Recent LATICRETE Mosaic Competition winner, Catherine Conaty from Cairo Made That, discusses her winning mural and the process that was involved:

"It is sealed with HYDRO BAN^®, adhered with 4237 Latex Additive and Sanded Grout, and then grouted with the same grout. It is the front fence of a 5 acre property at Capalaba (QLD), with 36 panels in total – which I’m doing all by myself. I use a combination of white ceramic tiles and stained glass. Every single bit of the project is hand cut by me, assembled on mesh panels, transported to the site and installed. It is the biggest work I have ever done."

HYDRO BAN is a thin, load bearing, waterproofing/crack isolation membrane that DOES NOT require the use of fabric in the field, coves or corners.

4237 Latex Additive is a specially engineered latex additive designed for installing all types of tile, stone and agglomerates.

Sanded Grout is formulated from a blend of high strength Portland cement, graded aggregates, polymers and colour-fast pigments and provides a grout joint that is dense, hard and durable.

"The work is called “Fire” and is 60x60cms, is wall decor made with glass tiles vidrepur and 254 Platinum (I use this because  it is super strong and works amazing) - Each piece has been cut with my hands, I don’t use machines for my works". For more information or to view more of Mauricio's artworks click here.

Mauricio chose to use Platinum 245, a one-step, polymer fortified, thin-set mortar for interior and exterior installation of ceramic tile, stone, quarry tile, pavers and brick. 254 Platinum is excellent for exterior and underwater applications as well as providing superior bond to exterior glue plywood (interior only) and concrete. An email from a very grateful mosaic artist, Sonia King, sent to our GM, Henry B Rothberg:

Hi Henry,

A big thank you to everyone at Laticrete for sending the white Multimax to Greece for the workshop.  A whole group of mosaic artists from around the world are now singing the praises of Laticrete!  And special thanks to Marilyn who was tireless as the package worked it's way through Greek customs!

My workshop in England is in a couple of weeks and I've already had emails from the other instructor and a few students about looking forward to working with Laticrete product :-)

Below is the class pic from the Greece workshop, outside our lovely studio on Paros.  It's a truly international group.
