International Project: The Ned Hotel

 

LATICRETE promises to Enable Iconic Designs all over the world, and this week we're showcasing a beautiful project from the UK!

Originally designed by Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens in 1924, this building was a masterpiece of its age, widely regarded as the finest commercial building of its time with a grand banking hall and offices in the Neo-Classicism style.

Eventually turned into a hotel and named in honour of its creator, The Ned Hotel would become a sumptuous five star hotel, spa and beauty club and include a collection of restaurants. Due to its Grade-I listed status it had to keep the historic features of the original design, and any new addition to the hotel would also have to look like it was an original part of the building, designed in the neo-classic trend of the 1920’s.

With a specification of hexagonal pool tiles and a unique grout colour to match a design from almost 100 years ago, LATICRETE Europe was able to step up to the challenge and meet all the unique requirements for this project. Thanks to our innovative grout solutions, LATICRETE played our part in giving this very special old building has a new lease on life.

International Project: Cathedral of the Holy Cross

 

Join us each week for a look at a stunning LATICRETE project from around the world! This week we're taking a look at Boston in the United States. For nearly 150 years, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross has been a staple in Boston’s Catholic community and has played host to many significant events in U.S. history, including 1964’s requiem mass to mourn the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Pope John Paul II’s first trip to the United States as leader of the Catholic Church in 1979 and an interfaith service where President Barack Obama addressed the nation after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Generations of use had taken a toll on the largest Catholic church in New England, and for its first-ever renovation architects chose to specify products that would stand the test of time, using a full LATIRETE installation system for a 25-year warranty. With almost 1900m² to be tiled, the contractors relied on a vast range of LATICRETE products to ensure this historic project was a success.

The range of products used on this project include LEVEL and STRATA_MAT™ for the underlayment and uncoupling membrane, topped with a layer of HYDRO BAN® and adhesives, followed by grouting with PERMACOLOR® Select and SPECTRALOCK® Pro Premium Grout.

La Casa De Esperanza

Join us each week for a look at some stunning LATICRETE projects from around the world! This week we're showcasing La Casa De Esperanza in Wisconsin, USA.

Founded in 1966, La Casa De Esperanza, which stands for ‘The House of Hope,’ is a full-service charter school located in Waukesha with a mission to provide opportunities for children to achieve full social and economic participation in society, with emphasis on the Hispanic population.

With the construction of a new charter building, the school came together with more than 50 students and community members to design a beautiful façade mural to create a cumulative design that represented the school's history and community. 

The final design of the mural was 4.2m by 7.3m, and installed using a full system of LATICRETE products, including waterproofing using HYDRO BAN®, and grouted using SPECTRALOCK® Pro Premium Grout.

AC Marriott Hotel Mosaic Installation

 

Join us each week for a look at some stunning LATICRETE projects from around the world! This week we're showcasing the Antonio Catalan (AC) Marriott Hotel in Texas, USA.

The AC Marriott Hotel features modern American architectural design with a Spanish twist, and developer Jackson Shaw wanted to accentuate this with an eye-catching sculpture in the front entranceway to make a lasting impression. 

Shaw chose mosaic designer Julie Richey to create the stunning 7.23m² Pamplona Rose column, inspired by the traditional stitched polaina that adorned the boots of Spanish horse riders. The column, along with the tiled entryway floor, used almost 100kg of glass mosaics in 35 different colours.

Julie Richey chose a LATICRETE solution for this installation, electing to use LATAPOXY® 300 Adhesive for the perfect bond to the unique fibreglass structure of the column. She grouted the mosaic with SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout, and sealed with LATASIL™ to complete this epic project!
