The Shields Street Heart Mosaic Project

Cairns is the most northern regional commercial centre on the Australian eastern seaboard and is the closest mainland city for Australia’s neighbors in the Coral Sea. Artists Philomena Yeatman, Edna Ambrym, and Valmai Pollard from the nearby Indigenous community of Yarrabah were selected by the Cairns Council to produce artworks for a $700,000 public art mosaic project to be featured on eight walls around landscaped gardens in the main mall in Cairns, QLD. 

Don Macdonald and his team from The Orchid Group were appointed as the installing contractors due to their extensive mosaic experience and Artistic Solutions Group as the Creative Consultants to ensure artistic integrity was maintained as the canvas paintings were translated into mosaics and adapted to the vast expanse of the eight walls.

“It was the one thing I didn’t have to think about. All the products; 254 Platinum, 3701 Fortified Mortar Bed, 335 Premium Flexible Adhesive, HYDRO BAN®, LATAPOXY® SP-100 and SPECTRALOCK® PRO Grout, performed exceptionally well individually and as a complete system. Equally as important to use the right products, is the technical support. The team at LATICRETE provided me with all of the essential background and technical understanding for each of the products which allowed me to execute the installation with confidence knowing I was using the very best products and industry best practice with our methodology”, said Don Macdonald, The Orchid Group.

The project was a huge success for the entire team and the project was a significant undertaking with all of its complexities and challenges. LATICRETE remained the undeniable constant throughout the whole process for the reliability, dependability, and superior performance of system approach.

Over the weekend LATICRETE Australia R&D Manager, Dr. Surendra Patel, attended a ceremony where he became Australian Citizen. Surendra has lived in Australia for 8 years and is very excited to officially be an "Ozzie"! 

"Everyone says that Australia is the most livable country in the world and we wanted to see it for ourselves. So, we came here in 2009 on a Permanent Residence Visa. After living in a welcoming, peaceful, and multicultural country for more than 8 years I decided to make an ionic/covalent bond (most stable bonds in Chemistry) with this beautiful country, I decided to take citizenship. And now Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi...”

What a Meeting!

The LATICRETE Australian Feb Sales Meeting kicked off with loads of fun on Segways, followed up with the Awards Evening. The remainder of the National Sales Meeting consisted of full days of strategic meetings on growth, support, marketing and on hands training on LATICRETE products.

What a Day, What an Evening!

LATICRETE Australia, National Sales Meeting kicked off with an awesome tour around the Brisbane River on Segways - the views were awesome and the laughs continued until the very end.

The evening ended on a high at the Awards Dinner where Adam Marks, National Sales Manager presented Nick Collett with the Producers Award for the highest growth in HYDRO BAN® sales across all Australian territories. Well done Nick - an award most deserved!

Australian Master Tilers Association

Nick Collett (LATICRETE Australia) and Frank Moebus (Australian Master Tilers Association) and Henry Rothberg (LATICRETE Australia GM) spent time chatting today regarding a wide range of subjects including the commitment that LATICRETE makes to "hands-on" training and educational programs for tile installers.

In the next few months LATICRETE will be sponsoring in conjunction with the Australian Master Tilers Association a series of Learning Exchange programs for tiler installers ranging from "Stain-Proof Grout" installation techniques to fast, thin, highly productive sound control materials and methods. These training events will be held at LATICRETE educational facilities in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. We also do these types of training and educational events at our 7 USA facilities!

Recently LATICRETE Australia had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Sujit Singh (General Manager of LATICRETE/RAK in UAE) visit for our Annual Sales Meeting. 

As it was Mr. Sujit Singh's first time visiting Australia, a few "true blue" experiences were on the agenda, such as a day out with LATICRETE Australia's R&D Chemist, Dr Surendra Patel at Australia Zoo and also picking some strawberries!

LATICRETE prides itself on the exchange of knowledge and experiences between LATICRETE team members across the globe.
